Vuk Jeremić in Tallinn to Discuss International Criminal Justice
The President of the Centre for International Relations and Sustainable Development (CIRSD) Vuk Jeremić participated in the „Annual Conference on Human Rights 2013“, in Tallinn, Estonia, on December 10th.
During the two-day conference, participants discussed international law principles, prosecution of crimes against humanity, challenges faced by the international community in the fight against organized crime and more effective measures for the protection of human rights.
Mr. Jeremić took part in a panel discussion on „Crimes Against Humanity and Topical Issues Related to their Prosecution“, together with the Vice President of the International Criminal Court Cuno Jakob Tarfusser, the President of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda at the UN Vagn Joensen and the President of the Assembly of States Parties of the International Criminal Court Tiina Intelmann.
During the discusion, Mr. Jeremić stressed the importance of the thematic debate on the Role of International Criminal Justice in Reconciliation, which was held earlier this year at the UN General Assembly. He underlined that the failures of the tribunals must be recognized in order for international criminal justice to be objectively and effectively exercised in the future.
