CIRSD and a Leading Turkish Think Tank Sign Cooperation Agreement
The President of the Center for International Relations and Sustainable Development (CIRSD) Mr. Vuk Jeremić and the President of the Turkey’s Marmara Group Foundation Dr. Akkan Suver, signed earlier today an agreement to promote all-around cooperation, establish friendly exchanges and develop projects of mutual interest.
The cooperation agreement was signed during the opening session of the 17th Eurasian Economic Summit, hosted by the Marmara Group Foundation in Istanbul.
In his keynote remarks to the Eurasian Economic Summit, CIRSD President Jeremić said that it is the present generation’s imperative to wholeheartedly embrace the concept of sustainable development as the core of the UN’s post-2015 agenda, and that this would require a choice by the international community to make profound changes to how economic, social, and environmental affairs are conducted at national, regional and global levels.
Jeremić emphasized that the post-2015 agenda cannot succeed unless it includes “an underpinning global ethical framework”, concluding that “it should be our duty to make a revitalized United Nations the functional center for harmonizing mankind’s response to a threat far more insidious than any we have faced in history” — the threat posed by human-induced climate change.
